Do you accept fiction/non-fiction, plays, or hybrid works?
Nope. We only publish poetry.
What kinds of poetry do you publish?
We publish ALL kinds of poetry, including free verse, form poetry (ghazals, haikus, sonnets, tankas, fibonacci sequences, sestinas, villanelles, etc), and visual poetry.
Who can submit?
Any emerging writer is eligible to submit as long as they have no more than 1 book. If you are a writer who has 2 or more books, we will not be able to accept your poems.
Do you accept previously published work?
Nope.
Do you accept simultaneous submissions?
Yes, but please let us know as soon as a poem is accepted elsewhere. If more than two poems are accepted, please withdraw your submission. We want to get a full sense of your range and if many poems are accepted elsewhere, we won’t be able to publish your work. Remember, we want to publish poets not poems.
Do you accept multiple submissions?
No. Please submit once per submission period and wait till you hear back from us before sending more work.
When can I expect to hear back from you?
We will try to make a decision within 3 months (90 days) from submission. Please query about your work if it’s been more than 90 days.
Do you have themed issues?
Yes! We will be having themed issues soon!
Is there anything else we should include in our submission?
Include a brief cover letter listing the number of poems you are submitting and the names of each poem, your name/pen name, relevant contact information, and a third-person biography (no more than three small paragraphs). Feel free to include your pronouns in the biography. Although this isn’t necessary, we don’t want to make anyone feel excluded and want to refer to everyone as they want to be referred to.
Is there any payment for accepted work?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide payment. However, we will be having a Zoom reading after each issue to promote community.
What rights do I, the author, retain after publication?
All rights revert back to you, the author, after publication. Please acknowledge us, The Marbled Sigh, if your poems are published elsewhere, such as a chapbook, full-length collection, or in another journal.
