Things Were Just Easier Back Then
All the kids wanna exist in the time
of acute angle eyeliner and unicorn Frappuccinos,
back before the mortality of man was magnified
by a certain bacterium, man I would like
to have belonged in the frozen crowds
joined together by a single goal, that was
to give the illusion that time stood still.
The kids of tomorrow will grow up
in the apocalypse like their fathers
and their father’s father, the bloke
thousands of years ago who walked
the rat stained streets of old England
where the crosses stood still, immortalised
by the original sin, that was, the sin
of our father’s father who built
the great coffee machine and boats and
oil and ink, fables in paper,
slipping away slowly,
things were just easier back then.
