When
When my father died,
strangers took his eyes
and placed his body
in a black bag.
He was no longer
a man.
Only weight.
So heavy
they carried him
out of my house
like trash.
Noël Pruzzo is an Argentine poet based in Madrid, Spain. Her work explores trauma, loss, memory, and the construction of identity through fragmented, bodily language. “When” is her first published poem and is part of “Lengua Rota “(Broken Tongue), a manuscript in progress — a collection of poetry and poetic prose that turns fracture into language and asks what writing can do where memory, body, and word cease to coincide.
