Serengeti

Beyond the manicured lawns
there is a Serengeti, a place where
grass is wild and dry, though
no long-necked giraffes roam
or wild elephants stampede.

Beyond the Serengeti
is an ocean of cerulean blue, the shade deepening
as the sun wanders overhead
and a terrier scampers over the dunes
in crazed delight.

We share a lobster roll, the poor creature
from the sea boiled alive.
And in a world gone mad, the sun still sets
in a blaze of hues, and after
a torrent of kisses, your arm crosses my waist
anchoring a fitful sleep.
