Natural Religion
On the 7th day, she could not rest.
She fretted.
He had suggested
they lie down in green pasture.
He told her she had beautiful breasts,
called her his Angel,
his divinity.
She waited alone now.
Her prayers appealing
for release of the Red Sea
and absolution,
reversal of any
potential miracle
requiring the giving of voice
to her confession
of contemplated sin.
Adaptation
Earth forgives
Forests rise after fires
Rivers push new tributaries
sluice into dry basins
Drought forces Darwinism
Flora or fauna adapt
or perish
Deep caves
spawn sightless fish
Mammals drink mere drops of moisture
Earth forgives
Tallies failure in fossils
written in stone
spreads winged success
in rainbow parrots
over empty skies
